The Hirbawi weavery is in Al-Khalil (Hebron). We asked Mr. Hirbawi to produce a Kufiya to represent his own city. And here is the result: a homage to the ancient city of Hebron and its unique people.
Abu Mohammad Hirbawi was searching for an old photo in a negative strip (before digital photography). He discovered a negative photo of a traditional black and white Kufiya. Inspiration ! He immediately sat down at his machine and designed an inverted Palestinian Kufiya. Here is the result.
Named after the world renowned South-African civil rights leader, the Mandela African Kufiya is woven in the Pan-African colours, Red, Yellow, Green and Black, as a commemoration of the common struggle of African nations for sovereignty and liberation from colonialism, with the human rights struggle against Israeli apartheid in Palestine.
